Basic introduction:
Original microfluidic device Linas-M fordevelopment and manufacturing of well-size-controlled functional lipidnanoparticles. Other company’s’ conventional mixer devices focus on quickmixing, and as a result, they can produce small particles even at a low flowrate condition. But the range of particle size change in response to flow ratechange is narrow.
On the other hand, the iLiNP does not inducerapid mixing at a low flow rate, and the change in particle size as a functionof flow rate is gradual. As the flow rate is increased, a local vortex isappeared and dilution is accelerated, even in the flow rate range where mixingand dilution performance is normally saturated. As a result, the range ofparticle size change in response to flow rate change is very wide. Size controlrange is 20-150 nm.
Advantages & Key Functionalities
Reservoir tanks and high precisionsyringe pumps are built-in. Using a small amount of reagent, particleprototypes with high flow rate precision and high manufacturing reproducibilityare possible.
The microfluidic chips with various flow path shapes can be used(customization is chargeable). Up to 4 ports can be used for inlets / outlets.
Built-in control computer eliminates the need for an external PC.Easy operation by anyone with a touch panel interface.
The microfluidic chips can be set by simply placing it on the stageand lifting up. This contributes to improve reproducibility without the needfor troublesome piping operations.
Application:
Preparation of large-size particles
The reason why the iLiNP can easily producelarge particles (>80 nm for a typical lipid composition), although the othercompany’s technologies cannot, is because of the different mixing strategy ofthe ingredients.
The iLiNP (shown in the above figure) adopt astrategy of no-whole & no-rapid mixing of the ingredient at a typical flowcondition. As a result, the liquid-liquid interface, where self-assembly of thelipids proceeds, is maintained for a long time, and large particles can beobtained (<200 nm for a typical lipid composition, <500 nm if the lipidcomposition is also modified).
Preparation of small-size particles
Under a high flow condition, the channelstructure adopted in the iLiNP generates a local vortex (local mixing) in theflow channel while maintaining the interface as shown in the above figure.
As a result, local dilution is acceleratedonly under the high flow rate conditions, and small particles can be obtained. The efficiency is so high that even smaller particles than those produced byother technologies can be obtained at a flow rate of about 1/10 that of othertechnologies.
